This frozen yogurt recipe is simple, healthy and tastes delicious. Greek yogurt can be frozen in cups or made in FroYo Bar silicone popsicle molds like I’ve used today. It's an easy recipe with as little as two ingredients.
If you choose to do the chocolate dip, and why wouldn’t you…it only adds two more ingredients.
You also can custom make your own flavor of bars, adding your own special, personalized ingredients.
Be creative and enjoy yourself. You deserve a delicious treat.
I love having a cold, yummy treat on hand, and when it's healthy that’s true perfection to me.
When I say healthy, sometimes it sounds like a huge turn off. But these FroYo Bars truly taste delicious and in my opinion are a gift from the greek yogurt heavens.
Plus these bars don’t freeze so hard you can’t bite into them comfortably.
Sometimes homemade ice cream or FroYo freezes hard like a rock. These freeze but are completely edible the moment you want to eat them.
Which is a huge plus if you’re trying to eat one really fast like some people do…me for instance.
That way you can enjoy them immediately.
And you’ll want to grab one every chance you get.
What is Frozen Yogurt {FroYo Bars}
Frozen yogurt is just that, yogurt that has been frozen.
There are places that sell soft serve FroYo, where you can swirl different flavors together then add the toppings of your choice.
Occasionally I’ve made my own frozen yogurt in a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker, which turns out great.
It’s a wonderful machine if you want to eat a big bowl of FroYo, that’s more on the soft serve side in the comfort of your own home.
Plus, it’s fun to watch the ice cream machine spin away as it turns your yogurt mixture into a delicious frozen concoction.
For today’s frozen yogurt recipe, I made homemade greek yogurt from heavy cream which tastes decadent.
Then I mixed in my toppings and poured them into a silicon ice cream bar mold.
How to Make Frozen Yogurt {FroYo Bars}
Ingredients
Yogurt - I make homemade yogurt because not only is it fun but I can cook it for as long as I want to make sure it’s lactose free.
I follow an anti-inflammatory diet, so eliminating any excess sugars feels super beneficial.
Protein Powder - I use a grass fed version from a company called Opportuniteas. I get it from, you guessed it, Amazon.
It has no flavor and mixes very well into colder ingredients, like yogurt.
Plus it has a ton of protein, which is ultimately the point.
Getting enough protein in your diet helps with cravings between meal times, is great for maintaining and growing muscle, as well as many other functions in your body.
Chocolate Chips - I use Hu Chocolate Chips because there are no added sugars or junk ingredients.
They taste fantastic.
Peanut Butter - I use a clean version that only contains peanuts and oil. Occasionally there may be added salt.
The cleaner the better. I get mine sometimes from Target under their own Good & Gather brand, or from Whole Foods under their 365 brand.
Read the ingredients to make sure you’re getting the right one, if you want to try it.
Directions
Add your popsicle sticks into the silicon molds.
Place the silicon molds onto a baking sheet that will fit in your freezer flat.
In a medium sized mixing bowl, mix the yogurt and protein powder together until they are well combined.
The protein powder will completely mix into the yogurt. You shouldn’t have lumps or dry powder when you’re done mixing them together.
Add any other ingredients now. If you want to add peanut butter or chocolate chips now is the time to mix them into the yogurt, protein powder blend.
Using a measuring cup, pour a measured amount into the silicon mold, one at a time.
Be extra careful not to spill on the edges. If you do, just wipe it completely away with a napkin or paper towel.
I have even used the flat edge of one of the popsicle sticks to scrape the mixture into the molds.
That worked great. And you can lick it when you’re done.
Continue filling all of the silicon molds.
Place the baking sheet with the silicone molds into the freezer, in a location where they can lay flat.
Ensure they aren’t touching any other food in the freezer.
Freeze them for 4-5 hours, at the minimum, to overnight. I freeze mine overnight.
It’s hard to not eat them but doable.
Tear off a sheet of parchment paper large enough to cover the baking sheet you have your silicone molds on in the freezer.
Remove the FroYo Bars from the freezer and take the silicone molds off of the baking sheet.
Line your baking sheet with the parchment paper.
Next, remove the FroYo Bars from the silicon molds.
Do this carefully, but quickly.
Place those FroYo Bars onto the parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Place the bars back into the freezer.
Now, melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil in the microwave in a large microwave safe bowl.
Stir the chocolate mixture until it is a silky and smooth dipping sauce.
Pour the chocolate sauce mixture into a tall glass container, like a large liquid measuring cup.
The container must be tall enough to dip the bar up to where the frozen yogurt meets the stick.
A full dunk.
It’s better if the container is narrow too, so you don’t have to melt a ton of extra chocolate dipping sauce.
Moving very quickly, dip each FroYo Bar into the chocolate mixture allowing the excess to drip off.
Place each dipped bar back onto the parchment paper lined baking sheet as you go.
Get them all back in the freezer for at least one hour.
Is Frozen Yogurt Healthy
Yes and no, it depends.
If you buy frozen yogurt at a FroYo shop it may have a lot of added sugars, plus if you top it with candy, syrups, whipped cream, and other sugary treats then it is about as healthy as ice cream.
However, if you make homemade yogurt like I do with organic half and half or full fat milk. Then add a lot of concentrated probiotics and cook it long enough to reduce or even eliminate the sugar content (lactose) it can be much healthier than ice cream.
You also could select a healthy greek yogurt from the store, it won’t have as many healthy probiotics as long cooked homemade, but will have some.
Then freeze these yogurts yourself, like we are doing today, frozen yogurt can be healthy.
Is Frozen Yogurt Dairy
There are a lot of frozen yogurts that are not dairy. You can buy alternative milk frozen yogurts, and even some that are sorbet-like.
Can Greek Yogurt Be Frozen
Absolutely! That’s what we are doing here.
It’s such a good idea.
I’ve also frozen greek yogurt into a Frozen Yogurt Bark. Check out that recipe here.
I’ve also seen greek yogurt frozen into plastic cups, pouring nuts, granola, or chocolate chips on top.
Just grab the cup and gobble it down.
Tips for Making Frozen Yogurt {FroYo Bars}
Make sure you place your silicone molds onto the baking sheet before you add the yogurt into the molds.
They are very floppy without a support underneath them.
I also added butter knives over the stick portion of the molds to ensure the sticks froze in the center of each frozen yogurt bar.
Blend the protein well into the yogurt.
Blend the chocolate and coconut oil together until it is silky and completely smooth. Every bit of chocolate should have melted.
How to Store Frozen Yogurt {FroYo Bars}
If you plan on storing the FroYo Bars longer than a day/night, then you can wrap them in plastic wrap and store them in an airtight container for a couple of weeks.
Hopefully, they’ll be gone before then.
Can Dogs Eat Frozen Yogurt
Yes, you bet they can.
But you may want to think twice before serving your fur baby store bought frozen yogurt because it often has a lot of added sugars and other ingredients that may not be so healthy for your dog.
You could freeze a cup of frozen plain greek yogurt and dish it up to them.
Or you could make nice cream, which is essentially blending small chunks of frozen banana (with brown spots) in your food processor until it becomes like soft serve.
You can add a spoonful of peanut butter to elevate the yumminess.
But honestly, banana nice cream is pretty amazing. I’ve been toying with a recipe that I’ll release soon.
Long story, short, you can absolutely serve frozen yogurt to your puppy dog.

Notes
Be sure to add the silicon molds onto the baking sheet prior to filling them with the yogurt mixture. They are next to impossible to move onto the sheets if you’ve filled the molds before you’ve set them on the baking sheet. Trust me. Haa
