Lightly crispy outer edge, perfectly done whites, and a yolk that will meet you anywhere you want to be. Do you like sunny side up, over easy, over medium, or over hard? The world is your oyster when it comes to fried eggs. They truly are delicious for breakfast, no doubt! But the beautiful thing about fried eggs is adding them to many other meals any time of the day.
What is a Fried Egg
Crack an egg into a small bowl, like a custard dish, heat a pan with butter. Surrounding your eggs in butter gives a delicious flavor. Then gently pour the egg from the bowl into the frying pan. Voila! You’ve begun to make a fried egg.
Fried eggs come in basically four different styles, sunny side up, over easy, over medium, and over hard or well.
Sunny side up: Egg is fried with the yolk up and the yolk is not hard
Over easy: Egg is flipped over but the yolk remains soft, or runny
Over medium: Egg is flipped but the yolk is only slightly runny
Over hard or well: Egg is flipped and the yolk cooks until it is no longer runny.
The egg can also be basted with the butter or oil/fat in the pan, which basically means you take a spoon and gently scoop up the pan oil and pour it over the egg yolk. In this way, you don’t have to flip the egg.

What You’ll Love About Fried Eggs
Frying eggs are quick to make, they literally take 3-4 mins to cook. You can whip one up before you run out the door to work, or when you get home to top a burger patty. They are super nutritious, they have 6-7 grams of protein.

Tips for Making the Best Fried Egg
- Use the best possible eggs you can afford, and the freshest. The yolk should have a strong yellow, evenly slightly orange color.
- Crack the eggs into a small bowl about the size of a custard dish.
- Use a good skillet that can handle high heat and cook evenly, like the Perfect Pan.
- If you’re going for a perfectly round egg, use silicon molds to achieve that shape. Or ensure the pan is hot enough when you add the egg. Typically if the eggs spreads out too much it is because the pan wasn’t hot enough.
What to Serve with a Fried Egg
Crispy outside hashbrowns, fresh fruit, bacon or sausage, anything you love eating for breakfast.
Crispy edges of the whites of a sunny side up fried egg, dripping in butter, cozied up to a meaty, slightly salty bite of bacon on the tip of your fork is what this is all about folks.
You can also top savory lunch or dinner foods with a fried egg. Top a burger patty with a sunny side up egg, it tastes as delicious as it looks.

Ingredients
- Eggs
- Butter, or oil of your choice for cooking
- Seasonings of your choice
Instructions
- Pre-heat a non-stick pan over medium heat, the Perfect Pan cooks fried eggs very well due to its excellent ceramic coating and heating technology
- Add butter to the pan, I use about 1 Tbs for every 2 eggs to prevent any sticking and for flavor plus texture of the egg whites
- Crack each egg into its own small cup, the size of a custard cup
- When the pan is heated well gently slide each egg into the pan, into its own section. The Perfect Pan will cook about 3 eggs at one time.
- Set your time for 3-4 mins, this may depend on your stovetop or preference.Â
- If you like sunny side up then remove the eggs from the pan now. Use a very thin edged spatula to carefully scoop out the eggs while leaving the yolks intact. Make sure the spatula is non-stick as well so it doesn’t mar the pans cooking surface.
- If you or your family/friends want a slightly different type of yolk then make your adaptations here. You can flip them gently and begin cooking them for an additional minute for over easy or 2 minutes for over medium
- For over hard, I place the lid on the pan after I have timed them for 3 minutes and remove it from the heat for 1-2 mins. The steam can also harden the yolk, plus you get some lightly crispy edges on the egg whites.
